Clongowes Wood College is the leading Irish boarding school for boys set in beautiful surroundings, thirty kilometers from Dublin in the heart of the Co. Kildare countryside. A Catholic school in the Jesuit tradition, Clongowes strives to support students in their growth towards a greater understanding and awareness of their faith and the part that this plays in their lives. We are a home from home for 450 boys from all over Ireland and abroad aged from 12 to 18 years. Clongowes is a special place that provides an all-round education in a dynamic living and learning community. Our facilities are exemplary with every opportunity given to each student to develop, grow and learn in order to fulfil his potential.
Since 1814, Clongowes graduates have become leaders in the areas of business, sport, politics and the arts. Our warm and happy school puts the care and nurturing of each individual student at the heart of everything we do. Set in 550 acres, yet close to Dublin airport, Clongowes is an ideal location for international families who desire a comprehensive, holistic education for their sons.
One of the strengths of a boarding school environment is that it allows education to spill over into every aspect of our students’ lives, through the co-curricular activities, through the bringing together of children from diverse cultures and communities, through the everyday challenges that enrich their world. We strive to knit together the academic and experiential learning into a more coherent fabric. This is what allows us to have a clear and identifiable ethos, a palpable school culture that is nourishing and nurturing of body, mind, and soul.
The co-operative learning model that has evolved in Clongowes supports our desire to be a learning community rather than viewing learning as a solitary, silent activity. We have a highly committed teaching staff, working closely with a dedicated team of prefects (housemasters), both groups endeavouring to combine the living and learning environments into a holistic educational experience.
